One of the most historic tracks in racing is also one of the most popular among drivers, fans and the media. Richmond's unique, ¾-mile layout produces exciting side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a super-speedway feel. Each season, Richmond International Raceway hosts two NASCAR Sprint Cup races, two NASCAR Nationwide Series races, an IRL Series event, a USAC Silver Crown Series event and a USAC National Sprint Car Series race.
The Richmond Braves AAA Baseball
The Richmond Braves, a AAA farm team for the Atlanta Braves, has called The Diamond home since its opening on April 17, 1985. In its prime The Diamond was recognized as one of the finest facilities in all of minor league baseball and it has served as the home of the Braves since. Plans are now underway for a new stadium.
The Richmond Kickers Professional Soccer
The Richmond Kickers, a professional soccer club, was established in 1993 as a member of the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues (USISL). While the USISL has gone through growing pains and name changes over the years, the Kickers remain a cornerstone of the ever-developing league. Several significant people have been a part of this organization, some as players and some as staff. All were essential to the Kickers becoming what they are today: a model for U.S. Soccer and 2006 USL Second Division Champions.
